　　A distinguished French Industrialist and student of management, Rolf Nordling, recently suggested that the chief executive’s job is the biggest and the least explored area for the application of Scientific Management, and especially of “work simplification.”

　　著名的法国工业家和管理学家诺德林最近指出，首席执行官的工作是科学管理的应用中最缺乏探索的一大领域，尤其在“简化工作”方面。

　　The first thing to be done would be what Carlsson did in Sweden: study the work day of the chief executive with a stop watch.

　　首先要做的应该是效法卡尔森在瑞典的做法：用秒表精确记录执行官每天的工作时间过程，并加以研究。

　　This is certainly sound.

　　这种做法当然很不错。

　　But (as Nordling hastened to point out) time study must be accompanied by hard thinking about what the job should be.

　　然而（正如诺德林急于指出的），在进行工作时间研究的同时，也必须深入思考执行官的工作内容应该是什么。
